Love and Football: Is it possible?

Most guys love football. They look forward to it all year long. On the other hand, it’s also something their significant other or wife despises, mostly knowing, that she’ll be ignored in favor for your favorite sport. Keep your relationship alive while enjoying your favorite sport with some handy tips from us.

Try to pique her interest: She probably won’t be interested but try to get her interest anyway. Introduce her to the game; tell her why you like your team, who the players are, the history, the names, etc. If she’s still not interested, strike a deal with her. For every game you get to enjoy, you will go out and do something that she loves.

Don’t ignore her: The worst possible thing you can do is throw out an excuse like “it’s football season” and expect her to be OK with it. No. Football lasts 6 months with pre-season games. You can’t ignore her for 6 months; she’ll walk away and you’ll be left alone. If that’s what you want, sure but most likely, you still want her around when football is over. The average fan spends 4,914 hours watching or reading about the season. When you’re not watching football, you’re working or thinking about the game so that’s a lot of time apart.
Compromise and take some time out for her. Arrange a date night that doesn’t involve a game of football. Make sure it’s not somewhere with a TV. If your team isn’t playing, use that night to go out so you can enjoy nights in when your team is playing.

Bringing her into the fold: If she shows an interest, that’s awesome. You’ve found a real winner. However, don’t get impatient if she asks a lot of questions. She’s trying to learn and be supportive. Also, don’t alienate her and kill the moment with unnecessary stats, history, etc that she doesn’t need to know about yet. Instead, explain the plays, what’s going with the game, and then later, after the game is over, explain how the game works and maybe even turn it into a fun date night activity.
