How Multiple Sclerosis – Warning Signs Affect Men’s Health

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, over 2.5 million people have multiple sclerosis worldwide.  It affects 400,000 people in the United States and about 91 % of which suffer from sexual dysfunction.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is two to three times more likely present in women than men. Also, it is commonly found in Caucasians including people of age 20 to 50 years. The onset of multiple sclerosis varies in all cases depending on the extent of brain damage.  The serious effects of MS in men affect overall health. Thus, multiple sclerosis and impotence require prompt attention from a specialist.

Multiple sclerosis is asymptomatic for some patients not until they undergo a series of neurological tests. Therefore, it’s best to discuss issues regarding sexual dysfunction and MS with an expert.

Here are few of the manifold warning signs of multiple sclerosis:

Dizziness

Dizziness can occur as a result of nerve damage in the optical pathways of the brain. MS creates lesions on the nerve pathways that work to coordinate visual and spatial input to keep the body in correct balance.

Muscle Spasms

Muscle spasticity is often a result of an electrical signal imbalance of the brain and spinal cord. Thus, muscle spasm in the arms and legs can also lead to immobility.

In addition, multiple sclerosis predisposes men to involuntary muscle contractions and an increasing muscle tension. This occurs as a result of hyperactive muscle stretch reflexes.

Vision problems

Blurred vision, legal blindness and optic neuritis are common in people with multiple sclerosis. Optic neuritis affects several patients with MS. This inflammatory eye disorder affects the optic nerves and can lead to complete or partial loss of vision.

Sexual dysfunction and Impotence

Several researches show a strong link between MS and impotence. The damage of the nerve pathway often results to poor signals to the genitalia. As a result, men find difficulty in achieving substantial erections for penetration.

Poor Concentration

Some people with MS suffer from mental problems. The nerve damage may affect the ability to pay attention and concentrate on complex mental tasks.

Unusual Sensations

Multiple sclerosis can lead to feelings of feelings of itching, burning, tearing or stabbing pains all over the body.

The initial symptoms of multiple sclerosis are results of the massive deterioration of the insulating coverings of the nerve fiber. This disease commonly affects the central nervous system consisting of the brain and spinal cord.

Therefore, it’s best to seek for medical advice from a doctor for possible treatments for multiple sclerosis and impotence.
